Camaro Window Motor
Q. Vincent, (I'm assuming this is going to be read by Vincent), My name is Austin and I own a 1994 Chevy Camaro. It's a five speed V-6 and recently the motor in my driver's side window gave up the ghost. I was going to take it into a dealership, but they were going to charge me $300+ dollars to fix it.
Instead, I decided to enlist my brother's help and fix it ourselves. He has been in and out of doors on trucks, but this was his first car. We were able to get into the door okay, but we weren't able to replace the motor. The problem was that we couldn't get to the motor. It was mounted behind a piece of fiberglass and we couldn't find where to take the fiberglass piece off. Could you perhaps direct me to a place where they can show me or tell me how to do it? Thanks for your help.
Sincerely,
AustinA. Yes, I do read my own mail, along with whatever federal agency that says they have to read it to protect me.
You need to remove the whole regulator from the door and then drill out rivets that hold the motor on. DANGER: the regulator can have a assist spring on it that can let the regulator become a cleaver! Use vise grips and a vise to make sure that all parts are held before drilling these rivets. There are also rivets holding the regulator into the door. Punch out the centers and use a ¼" drill bit to remove them. Good luck and be careful!
