Chevy Cavalier Clutch Thumping
Q. Good afternoon Mr. Ciulla,
My car is...
1998 Chevy Cavalier
Manual Transmission
54,000 miles
Fuel Injection
ABS Brakes
Power Steering
Air Conditioning
Engine Size- ?
Rack & pinion steeringMy issue is...
My clutch pedal is making a "clicking"/"thumping" noise when I am pulling off slowly and turning my steering wheel to the left or right. I can't hear it, but I can feel it in my foot because it is on the pedal. When I am driving at a normal rate of speed and I have to break down my gears to turn, I don't hear or feel anything. At a stand still without my foot on the pedal and the engine running I turn my steering wheel and I don't hear anything, but the same scenario with my foot on the pedal pressed in as if I am going to shift, I feel it.
Other than that, my car shifts in and out of gear and drives fine. I am taking it in 11/15/02 and am looking for advice so I won't get "taken" at the dealership.
Thanks for your help!!
StephanieA. This may be tough to diagnose without actually feeling it. Check the steering rack mounting and the coupling from the column to the rack bolts. Also make sure the hydraulic clutch cylinder is full and check the routing of the lines from it to the slave cylinder on the transmission for anything rubbing on them.
