Chevy Blazer Water Pump

Q. Hi, I'm having a problem changing my water pump. I have 1998 Chevy Blazer 6 cylinder, 4WD. I guess some changes have been made. How do you loosen the one large nut on the fan?? Is there a special trick or tool? According to my book it was changed in 1996.

Thanks for the help,
Chris

Chevy Blazer Water Pump

A. There is a special two piece tool for this. You can usually get by with a long handle screwdriver and a large adjustable wrench. Take the long screwdriver and wedge between two of the four water pump pulley bolts so it won't turn counter clockwise. Then get the adjustable wrench on the big nut to turn counter clockwise and un-screw the fan clutch. It works!
