Honda Accord Blower Motor
Q. Hi Vincent, Thanks for your wonderful site and for taking the time to help me out. I have a 1993 Honda Accord LX, 4 cylinder, automatic with 128,000 miles. 2.2 liter engine. No ABS, with P/S, A/C and cruise control.
When I turn the fan on I hear a slight whirring noise but no air comes out of the vents. Setting the fan to low, medium or high does not cause any air to come out of the vents. I took the car to my dealer and they told me that the blower motor was dead and it needed to be replaced. I was told that in my Accord, the A/C evaporator was in the way and needed to be removed to get at the blower motor. Furthermore, removing the evaporator would cause the refrigerant to leak out and that I would need to pay for a conversion to the new refrigerant.
I decided to check this out some more and purchased the Chilton book for my car. Well according to the blower motor removal procedure in the book, I don't have to touch any A/C components.
I'm confused. Either the dealer is trying to pull a fast one or the book is wrong.
I'm not afraid to do this myself and the procedure doesn't seem all that complicated in the Chilton book but I'm not sure if the Chilton book is missing any details.
Also, could it be the resistor instead of the motor.
Thanks for any suggestions.
AlexA. If it were just the blower motor resistor you would still have a normal high speed. It does sound like a bad blower motor to me also. You do need to evacuate the A/C system to remove the blower case which contains the blower motor. Not something a DIY can do.
The reason Chilton does not detail any A/C related work for liability reasons.
