Dies While Driving

Q. The engine has been stalling out as the car is moving, seems to be a problem with fuel but had the filter replaced and seems that wasn't the problem. It will stall out and the engine will start up again but when you put the vehicle in gear, which I should tell you that it is an automatic transmission.

Anyhow when you move the gearshift to put in gear it will kill the engine. After sitting for approximately 10 minutes the problem seems to fix itself and will not kill the engine. This is happening very frequently and getting to be a real pain. HELP! There is no problem with the engine starting after it dies, just with the motor stalling when put in gear. 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.4 liter with air conditioning.

A. Sounds like the torque convertor clutch solenoid is sticking on intermittently. This will give you the feeling like you didn't push the clutch in on a stick shift car. The solenoid is inside the transmission and not really a DIY job on this car. Call around for prices. You can also unplug the connector on the transmission to see if this is the problem.
