Maxima Power Windows - Again

Q. Hi Vince, I own a 1987 Maxima that has only 116,000 miles. Recently I have been experiencing trouble with the power windows and door locks. Often when I unlock the driver side door with the key only the drivers' door unlocks - all doors should unlock. But If I use the keypad the door locks work as they should i.e. all door unlock.

This problem also interferes with the anti-theft system since it goes off when the power door locks do not work properly.

Now I also have a power window problem in addition. Sometime they do not work - when the power door locks don't work. I could not get any windows to operate either from the driver's controls or the individual door controls. It doesn't matter if the lockout switch is on or off. Both problems seem to appear together.

I tried various ignition switch positions, which didn't do anything. If the keypad is used to lock or unlocked the doors the windows do work.

I have looked at the wiring diagram but for the life of me I can not see why the keypad works the door locks and not the key switch. And the window diagram doesn't lead me to a possible failure condition either.

Can you help me with this or tell me the troubleshooting sequence to go through for these devices.

Thanks,
Ralph

A. Ralph, I'll do you one better, I'll tell you where the problem is. it's the master switch in the drivers door. This is a very common problem on the Maxima. Read Maxima Power Windows for someone else with the same problem.
