Del Sol Oil Pressure Switch?
Q. I have a 1993 Honda Del Sol Si, 1.6 engine, automatic, fuel injected, P/S, A/C, with 110,000 miles. The check engine light was coming on frequently with code #22 Oil Pressure Sensor. I replaced the Oil Pressure Sensor and erased the code, but after awhile, the check engine light came back on again. Please advise.
Thank you.
A. DTC 22 indicates a bad Valve Timing Oil Pressure Switch (VTEC Pressure Switch) circuit. You may have replaced the OPS for the dash by mistake.
Unplug the VTEC Pressure Switch and check for continuity between the two terminals on the switch. If there is no continuity, the switch is bad and needs to be replaced.
If there is continuity, check for continuity between the brown/black wire and ground. If there is no continuity, repair the ground wire.
That is about all you can test at this point. The other tests involve installing a test harness and, if the other tests are done incorrectly, can result in severe engine damage. Take it to Honda and they will test the rest of the system if you have not found the problem with these tests.
The Check Engine warning light may come on, indicating a system problem, when, in fact, there is a poor or intermittent electrical connection. First, check the electrical connections, clean or repair the connections if necessary.
