GMC Fluery 454 Bad Lifter
Q. I had a blown head gasket in my motor home. So I took the heads off and got them rebuilt and replaced them after putting the engine back together and starting it. I do not get any oil to the top of the push rod on one cylinder. I have checked to make sure the push rod is not plug and the hole in the rocker arm is also not plugged.
I have about 35 psi of oil pressure and all the other rockers are getting oil. I was wondering if this is a bad lifter. If it is can I replace a lifter without changing them all or would it be better to replace all of them.

A. Does it tap? I've seen a lot of lifters take a while to purge the air out of them after the engine has been apart. You could replace just the one lifter. I don't see a problem here with the low miles on it. I have replaced a single lifter without removing the intake manifold by using a long magnet and removing the distributor to remove old and install new.
