Toyota Camry Oil Leak??
Q. I appreciate any help you can give me: Two weeks ago my 1992 Toyota Camry V-6 was low on oil and I put in WAY too much. It started smoking like a chimney so I had an oil change done. It STILL smokes (everyone on the road is staring at my car); Today I got underneath it to see what was going on.
There is a small oil leak (One drop every five minutes) from what looks like the exhaust tube; I don't know the correct name for this tube, but it's a heavy metal tube that comes down from the engine area and runs the length of the car to the exhaust pipe. The leak is located about 16 inches from the point where it drops from the engine area and turns to run the length of the car.
It's leaking from a joint in this tube. I've gone over every part of the car thoroughly and I am positive that the oil is leaking from INSIDE the tube. The car is smoking up a storm! Can anyone give me some advice: Is it possible that this small oil leak is the cause of the smoking, and, how much is this going to run me ($). Thanks very much!
David
A. I don't know exactly where on the engine you are referring to. No motor oil is carried in a tube under the engine. The only "heavy metal pipe" that runs under the car is the exhaust pipe and no oil could be leaking from there.
Look above where you see it and I'll bet the leak is higher up and falling on the pipe. You might have blown some oil out and now that you have the proper level, the residue is burning off.
