Volkswagen Golf Vehicle Speed Sensor Q. Recently the speedometer and odometer stopped functioning. All other gauges working okay. Questions; is this a cable or electronic speedometer? If it's cable, where does this darn thing connect to the transmission??? I can't find it. If it's electronic, is this something a DYI person can do myself??? A. G22 is the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) for the speedometer. Replacing it is merely a matter of unplugging it, screwing it out and installing a new one.
