Volvo 240GL Upshifted! Q. Vince, Yikes! I was driving on the highway today and my Overdrive light (It is an up arrow on my dashboard) went on without pushing the square button on the side of my gear shift (this makes it so my car is revving)! I tried pushing the button to make it go off, but it wouldn't. I pulled over and turned off the car.

The light was off so I got back on the highway. Five minutes later, the same thing happened! I quickly went to Jiffy Lube and had them check my transmission fluid. It was full. Do you have any idea what is going on?

A. It could be the OD relay is bad. It is located under the left hand side of the dashboard. You can try swapping it with another relay of the same type from somewhere else to see if it solves the problem.

Outside of the wiring the only other causes are a bad Shift Indicator Control Unit or an internal transmission problem.
