Bonneville Belt

Q. Vincent, I have a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville 6 cylinder 3.8 engine (Not supercharged) with A/C. I want to replace the Serpentine belt but there is a bar coming from the engine mount that keeps me from freeing the belt. I have been told that all I have to do is remove the engine mount, but even that does not free the belt.

There is a bar that needs to be removed to free it. Is there anyway I can get a clear description, step by step or a diagram to follow? I can not believe they did this to make a simple procedure so difficult.

Please help,
Al

A. There isn't any kind of description other than what you already know. The engine mount and support bracket do have to come off to replace the belt. It's a messed up design and I'm sure that some engineer at GM got a fat bonus for coming up with it.

Sorry I can't be much more help than this.
