Rear Drum Brakes
Q. Dear Vince, I own a 1986.5 Nissan 4x4 V-6 3.0 liter truck. I am in the process of putting new springs and retaining clips on my rear drum brakes. The shoes are new, but when I back up and this only happens when I back up the brakes want to grab in the rear. Do you have any help you can give me?
Also, do you know where I can find a good diagram of where the springs attach to in case I get lost?
Thank you,
RickA. Usually when drum brakes grab backing up, is because the shoes are in the wrong position. It is easy to mix up the shoes and a lot of people don't even realize there is a difference. There is a simple rule to follow and it's easy to remember, "Long shoe in back."
And here's the diagram you wanted.
