Pontiac Grand Am HVAC Blockage

Q. I have a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am, 2.3 liter SOHC 4 cylinder, MFI, P/S, ABS, A/C, with 80,000 miles. I bought the car used in 1998 and have had this problem since day one. The vent system for the heat A/C is plugged somewhere, the blower is fine. It works correctly at all speeds, but I get very little air in the car. I suspect a vent is not opening, where do I start?

Pontiac Grand Am HVAC Blockage

I have put up with this since I got the car and I am tired of driving in the winter with little or no heat or defrost, and in summer with no A/C.

Thank you,

A. There may be nothing wrong with the air delivery system. You may have some sort of blockage in the A/C evaporator core. All air that comes into the car must go through the evaporator core. I've seen them get blocked with lint from interior parts, leaves, mice nests, you name it.

If you can pull blower motor out and look in to try to see if there is any stuff clogging the evaporator core first, I'm sure you will find something. A long blow gun & some brake clean will help in getting most of it off.
