Ford Escort With Problems Q. I have a 1997 Ford Escort with problems. I took it to Firestone to get a tune-up because it backfires. It still backfires. I put some Slick 50 in it because it jerks and does not want to go into gear. I still have the same problem but does not seem as bad as before, but still pretty aggravating. There is a hose that is taped off which I believe is the PCV hose. Is that hose of great importance? Do you have any suggestions Thanks, Jack

A. Jack, the best thing you can do is take it to a Ford Dealer and let them look at it. It sounds like you have multiple problems which may or may not be related.

The only thing I'm sure of is adding the Slick 50 to the engine is only going to make the Slick 50 makers a little richer.
