Honda CR-V LX Idle Speed Problem?
Q. Hello Mr. Ciulla, I just purchased a used 2000 Honda CR-V LX , 2.0 liter, automatic transmission with 45,000 miles. It has fuel injection, P/S, A/C, and cruise control. My question is that when I start the car in the morning, the RPM is 1,500. When I shift to Reverse or Drive, the RPM drops to 500 while if I shift to Neutral, the RPM jumps back up to 1,500.
If I tap the gas pedal, the RPM will jump up but return back to 1,500. I also notice, if I let the car "warm up" for a few minutes, the RPM drops to 1,000.
I spoke with a Honda dealership person, and he said that 1,500 RPM is the starting idle and that this is normal. However, I spoke to a friend of mines who owns a 1999 Honda CR-V, and she said that her car starts off at 1,500 and after a few seconds, it drops down to 1,000. Do I have a problem with my idle and what should the proper RPM be for my car?
Is "warming up" the car for a few minutes excess duration for the RPM to drop from 1,500 to 1,000?
Thank you very much for your time and your much needed assistance.
Sincerely,
WilA. That sounds about normal to me Wil.
