Ford E-150 Oil Pan Replacement
Q. I need to remove my oil pan on a 1998 Ford E-150 with a 4.2 liter. It doesn't look like it will come out without lifting the motor or pulling back the transmission. Is this correct? I am getting low oil pressure when warm and in drive at idle, I know these engines have been plagued with problems and I may just put in a Jasper rebuilt.
Which is another question, would I have to remove the front clip to remove the engine or is there a easier way?
Thank you,
C.C.A. I'm going to assume you put a mechanical oil pressure tester on it and confirmed the oil pressure is actually too low.
To replace the oil pan, you will need to jack the engine up by at least 13 inches. Otherwise it will not come out.
If you decide to replace the complete engine, the whole front end, from the cooling fan to the garage wall has to come off. Figure at least three days, and probably four or more, to do the job.
