Ram Oil Pressure

Q. Dear Super Troubleshooter, On my drive to work and back (12 miles each way, freeway) my oil pressure will fluctuate erratically for about 2 to 3 minutes. By pushing the OD button on and off a few times and sometimes shifting to neutral and revving the engine a few times I can keep it off zero pressure.

Soon everything is back to normal again. I changed the oil pump twice (to be certain). The pickup tube is clean. The truck has 110,000 miles. The oil light has never come on while driving. Can you help me?

1995 Ram 1500
5.9 liter 360 V-8
Automatic Transmission
Fuel Injection
No ABS
P/S - A/C - Cruise control

Thank You,
Ron

A. Super Troubleshooter is not here, but maybe I can help you.

I would replace the Oil Pressure Switch. The fact the oil light doesn't come on and yet the gauge shows low pressure would seem to indicate the gauge side of the OPS is not working properly. You can verify this with a mechanical oil pressure tester, but I think a new OPS will fix the problem.
