Dead Nissan 200SX

Q. Sir, This is about a 1986 Nissan 200SX with a 2.0 liter engine and automatic transmission. It has been sitting for a few weeks and would not start. A door was left ajar and the battery was completely dead. I tried to jump start it and it would turn over but not fire.

I towed it home and tried to check out the system using a timing light. I had my wife crank the engine and I put the induction clip on the #1 plug wire. There was not a flash of light until she turned off the key, then just a single flash. The same held true when I used the timing light to check the wire from both coils to the distributor. I did check and the rotor is turning.

Do you have any idea what could possibly be wrong? I just don't know where to start. Is it possible that with the battery being completely dead that this has effected the computer module or something? I did try to check all electrical connections and they appeared to be good. I would appreciate any suggestion you may have since I haven't a clue.

Thank you,
Brian

A. I would try not jump starting it and instead putt in a known good, fully charged battery in it. If it still exhibits the same conditions, I would try replacing the ignition switch. It is located piggy back on the ignition lock cylinder and is very easy to replace. I think that should fix the problem.
