Dynasty Codes

Q. Hi Vince, I have a 1993 Dodge Dynasty, 3.3 liter, fuel injected, auto, A/C, P/S, Cruise,107,000 miles. After a highway run and sometimes in city driving, the car at a stop light, the "check gauges" light will come on. It blinks off and on when in gear and when the gas is applied it goes off.

Also sometimes, but not all the time, the car shudders and jumps when power is applied. At normal speeds, everything is fine and the check gauges light stay off when the RPM's are up. Idle is normal. The transmission has been drained and refilled, has a new filter from the local Dodge dealer. I ran self diagnostics with the check engine light and come up with a code 12 and 32. Why does the check gauges illuminate and what about the shudder and jumps forward when taking off?

Thanks,
Leonard

A. Code 12 means power to the PCM was interrupted. Most likely a battery disconnect within the last 50 key starts. Code 32 is an EGR Solenoid Circuit. This could very well be the cause of the shuddering when you take off.

With the engine running and EGR solenoid unplugged, see if you have vacuum at the EGR Solenoid. If you don't have vacuum there, you have a vacuum supply problem. Trace the hose and repair or replace it.

Now see if you have vacuum at the EGR valve with the engine at about 2,000 rpm. If you don't, replace the EGR valve.
