Volvo Beeps?
Q. Minor question, but the allusiveness of the answer is driving me crazy! Recently I purchased a 1998 Volvo V70 AWD, it's fine, I love it. It had one minor problem which, in theory, was repaired today, at no cost to me, there was no sound to the keyless entry/alarm system.
Now, when I lock or unlock, no sound and the lights flash once when I lock it, but when I press the panic button to test it, the lights flash once and I get the repeating beep until I press a button to turn it off.
Question: Should there be a sound when I lock the car? Based on my experience with a 1999 Honda Accord, there should be. When I locked my Honda with he remote, and pressed the lock button one more time, it "beeped" once and I felt secure that it was locked. Also, if I forgot where I put it in a parking lot, i could press that button and it would "beep" and the lights would flash, and I could locate my car. With the Volvo, the lights flash once when I lock it, but there is no sound, nor will the lights flash again if I hit the button again. Does the Volvo sound work only for break-in or panic mode?

A. According to my source at the local Volvo dealer, "Some beep and some don't." He told me the alarms are all, basically the same with some small variations subject to local markets and law. So for what it's worth, that's all I can offer you in the way of information.
