Olds Alero Blower Motor Has High Only
Q. I have a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero. The speed control for the A/C and the heat has 5 settings. The A/C and heat only works on the last 3 positions. It does not work on the first two settings, which is the two low fan settings. According to the manual there is only fuses for high speed, A/C and heat fan. What area should I look into to repair this problem?
Also I have to add antifreeze at least once a year. It is not leaking. Is this normal because the car calls for Dexcool® antifreeze?
Thank you,
BobA. The fan speed resistor is bad. It is located under the right side of dash forward of the blower fan. Not very easy to get to.
If it's losing coolant, it's going somewhere. You need to have it pressure tested to see if anything develops. Depending on engine size, it could be a leaking intake gasket, water pump, heater core or any one of many connections of hoses to metal parts.
