Dead Chevy Citation

Q. Hi There, My name is Jim and I have 1981 Chevy Citation with a 2.8 liter engine, automatic trans, 73,000 miles, P/S, A/C, cruise control. Well my question is my wife was going to pick my son up for Christmas and had stopped at a rest stop. When she got back into the car it wouldn't start. It would crank over but wouldn't start. I don't know what's happening with this thing. You can sit there and crank it until the battery dies but will not fire. Would you happen to know what the deal is and why its doing this?

Thanks so much for your time,
Jim

A. If there is no spark, then you probably have a bad ignition module or ignition coil. It's about a 50 - 50 bet which one it is. I would check the basics first, cap, rotor and wires and replace them if there is a doubt about how good they are.

Both items are relatively inexpensive, so it might not be a bad idea to replace both.
