A Bad Joke For Clean Inspiration
Friday July 27, 2007
Here's a quick bad joke for you courtesy one of my automotive colleagues here at About.com:
A [insert the politically incorrect interpretation of a general idiot of your choice] pushes a BMW into a gas station and tells the mechanic it died. After he works on it for a few minutes, it is idling smoothly.Ok, the joke is really bad, but it does remind us of one minor auto repair maintenance procedure that can save you big money. The best way to keep crap out of your fuel system (regular dirt and dust, too) is to keep your air filter clean. If you haven't replaced your air filter recently, now's the time to get to it.
"What's the story?" asks the car owner.
"Just crap in the carburetor," replies the mechanic.
The owner asks, "How often do I have to do that?"

Reading an article on oil filtration I see some interesting data results from an S.A.E. test on synthetic fibers. It explains that with synthetic nanofiber technology and, it mentions the brand, a new pinnacle has been reached. The most critical contaminants size range of 2 to 22 inflict the most engine wear. A human hair has a diameter of 50 to 75 microns. How many times have you see a gadget at a trade show or country fair that brags about much air flows through its filter.
Filter quality is measured in efficiency, meaning that it measures the correlation between air flow and contaminant retention.
Matt,
I laughed, I learned… what more could I asked for?
