The First Word in DIY Auto Repair
On this site you can read all about repairing your brakes, installing fuel filters, troubleshooting your automatic transmission, but some people are intimidated by even the simplest of auto repair tasks. There's nothing wrong with this. Take the simple task of changing a flat tire. It's a simple job for a guy like me, but a scary prospect for others. I'm sure it's technically not that difficult to properly roast a duck, but stick a guy like me in the kitchen and you'll see a deer in headlights. My visions of accidentally burning the kitchen to ashes probably compare to visions of your shiny new car rolling down a hill into a river after you tried to change your own tire. Fear not. Changing your own tire is a great first lesson in working on your car. Even if you have no desire to perform your own auto repairs and maintenance, everybody should know how to change a tire. You never know when you might be in an area with no cell phone service. About.com's Cars Guide Aaron Gold has put together an informative video to help take the fear out of changing a tire. If this guy can change his own tire, anybody can! Follow his instructions and you'll be well prepared if you find yourself on the side of the road looking at a slumping black marshmallow under your car.

I agree that doing it yourself on the less complicated repairs can save you tons of money. www.houstonautoglass.net From changing your own oil to changing out your own auto glass, by doing them yourself you can save and ensure that it is done properly.
While some repairs can be done at home such as oil changes and fluid refills. Some repairs should be left only to the professionals. I would not reccomend changing out your windshield or autoglass yourself. bostonAUTOGLASS.net
If you don’t seal the glass it could leak or worse fly off when on the highway and injure yourself or others.

The only trouble shooting that concerns the automatic transmission that I would suggest that would be OK, is checking that the level is up to maximum. Even that could have it’s hazards. If everything is working fine, even checking it s/b be done by a pro at scheduled times. If a synthetic ATF w/b used, this would keep a lot of cars w/ automatic transmissions problems out of shops.
