Add the Lifting Arm

The lifting arm is the piece of the engine hoist that carries the most weight. That's why it's so darn heavy! Use a helper for this step if you have one. If not, you can steady the arm over your shoulder while you slide the bolt in.

With the arm in place, you can install the extension of the arm. If your engine hoist is adjustable according to weight, choose the mounting point that corresponds to the weight you'll be lifting. In most cases, the 1/2 ton mark is plenty. If you're unsure, use the 1 ton hole. A Porsche engine weighs around 400 pounds, pretty light in the automotive world but pretty far from a ton.
