New school fuel filters for carbs allow you to see what's happening inside.

At our shop we work on a lot of carburetted engines, so we know how many of you are still out there driving with carbs. If you can't smell your fuel, how do you know how fast your going, right? I know that doesn't make sense, but it's a carb thing.

Fuel filters have come a long way since the 60s. There have been some advances in the filter medium -- the new paper filters flow very freely and last a long time -- but in my opinion the biggest difference in today's filters is their transparency. You can see inside. This may not seem a big deal, but that window into your fuel's filtration can speak volumes in terms of your fuel system's health. If you see anything actually visible caught on the supply side of your fuel filter, you need to inspect your fuel tank and lines carefully.
