Wiring Basics: Stripping and Crimping

Stripping the Wires

Stripping the wire.

Strip about 1/4 inch away.

In order to make an electrical connection, you need to strip away part of the rubber insulation at the end of the wire.

Using a stripping tool, place the end of the wire (about 1/4 inch) into the hole, clamp down on it, then pull the insulation away.
