F.A.Q.
- Q. I'm not what you'd call mechanically inclined. Can I work on my own car?A. Yes! Anybody can save time and money by doing some of their own work. Some people are better at it than others, so they'll be able to do a little more. But remember, the hard part was designing the car from scratch and making it work. All we have to do is follow the path that's already laid out.
- Q. Is it really worth it to repair my own car?A. I think so. It's worth it in more than one way, in fact. First, of course, is the time and money you will be saving by performing your own repairs and maintenance. Ever think of how long your car sits in your mechanic's parking lot before he even touches it? What a waste, and you're without a car the whole time. Almost equal to the time and money is the satisfaction you'll get from doing your own repairs, and understanding how your car really works.
- Q. Are you saying that I'm a whimp if I take my car to the shop?A. Of course not. Sometimes you just don't have the time to do it yourself. But taking the time to do some things instead of nothing will strengthen your relationship with your car so you know when something might be going wrong.
- Q. If I get stuck, can I call you for help?A. Sure! Just stand at the end of your driveway and howl with your arms flapping. Then, when your neighbors have taken you off their neighborhood watch call lists, go inside and send an email to autorepair.guide@about.com and I'll see if I can be of assistance.
