Repair Shop Reviews
I visited South Carolina this spring break, and an old mechanic there who spells Saab as Sabb on my invoice tells me, my mechanics in the North aren't doing a good job. And I thought it was just the Southerner thumbing his nose at the North... Some people are willing to pay a premium for excellence, but my bad experience with Wigwam reminds us that price and presentation (they have a beautiful showroom) belie true worth.
Some places that are highly priced ($72/hr labor) deserve the premium, because of their superior expertise. It's like a brand name, you trust them, and so you go there when you want the best. This place definitely has a reputation, but it is betrayed by my experience with their sub-standard knowledge. They took two days to diagnose a simple power drain, and billed me $189 for 2 hours of stupidity. For all time and money spent, all they did was pull out a fuse. I have been going to them for a year, and the last time I brought it in for electrical problems, they advised a new battery. I believed them, but that didn't solve my problem. So now that they've 'pull the fuse', what next?
