Definition: A mandatory requirement for all facilities that perform A/C service work. Venting refrigerant into the atmosphere is no longer permitted. All refrigerant (R12 or R134a) must be recovered from the vehicle's A/C system prior to opening the system for repairs. The refrigerant must then be recycled to meet certain purity standards.
