OD Switch And SRS Light

Q. Hello Vincent, I have a question regarding my 1996 Chrysler Sebring. Some of the vehicle specs are an automatic transmission, 2.5 liter V-6, 157,000 miles, A/C, cruise and all that fun stuff. Okay, here's the problem:

There is a button on the shifter that shuts off my overdrive when selected. I was trying to replace the switch because it stopped working and I had to put a rubber band around the shifter to keep overdrive on. While I was replacing this switch I had to cut three wires, since then overdrive has not made an appearance in about a week

I tried the new switch along with the old switch and overdrive still will not kick in at all. Also when I cut the three wires my SRS light came on and has not turned off since. I was wondering if I possible fried the transmission computer or something along those lines. I tried checking for fuses and I did not see any that were blown. I also made sure that I had good connections on the new switch.

I have yet to find a Haynes or Chilton's manual for the car so I was hoping that you could shed some light on the subject.

Thanks,
Mike

A. Why did you cut the wires and not just unplug the connector?

You probably blew fuse #3 in the Junction Block. That supplies power to the OD switch, the SRS system and the back up lights. This is the only point that these two systems have in common so I would have to say that is where the problem is.
