Ford Ranger A/C Temperature Control

Q. My question is when I have the A/C on Max, the Temperature Control is not working. I can turn the Temperature knob all the way to Red and the temperature stays the same, cold. I guess this is better than no A/C. In the Normal A/C position I have temperature control, but then have fumes from other vehicles and any other foul odor entering the cab.

Ford Ranger A/C Temperature Control

The dealer’s service department says this is normal and there is nothing wrong with my truck, it took them two days of messing with it to tell me this, even though one of the service advisors checked another Ranger and he said the temperature control worked as I would think it should.

My understanding is the cold air is redirected over the heater core blending air to control temperature. My wife’s 2000 Ford Focus temperature control works when on Max A/C. Is this really “normal” for this year Ranger? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A. No control of the outlet air temperature is hardly normal. I can think of many situations where you would want the A/C on and need warmer temperatures. MAX A/C puts the system into RECIRC which recycles the inside air. In NORMAL A/C, fresh air is brought in from the outside which explains why you get any smells that may be around.

Ford has been having a lot of problems with their electronic blend door actuators. In fact there have been several TSBs addressing the problem. Since it is still under warranty, I think you should suggest to them to check for DTCs, TSBs and the operation of the blend door actuator.
