GMC Sierra Banging Around Q. Hi Vincent, Great site I have a 2000 4x4 GMC Sierra 3500 Pick-up. Great truck 5.8 Vortec automatic transmission, 75,000 miles, ABS brakes P/S, A/C and CC. My Question is when I put it in 4 wheel drive and drive forward I here a bang noise. It does not happen all the time. When I drive it goes away.

I plow with this truck and always kept up with the maintenance. Please let me know what you think.

A. It may be the transfer case is just hanging up when shifted. I know GM had problems with the new design automatic 4x4 dash switches, but not for a bang noise. You need to determine if the noise is coming from the transfer case or the front differential area.
