Dodge Shadow Replacement Alternator
Q. Hello. I have an 1987 Dodge Shadow 2.5 liter automatic transmission. This year states that the voltage regulator is in one of two electronic controllers I was lead to a module one near the battery and an other near the passenger side kick panel. The trouble I'm having is I changed the alternator out for a bosch with internal regulator it stopped working after about three days.
Same thing happen with the old alternator external regulator installed on it via Firewall but did not last more then three days. Any help?

A. It sounds like you have an intermittent short to ground in the wiring harness for the alternator. Using the attached diagrams, trace out especially wires connecting to J2 and R9 on the alternator, to look for wires which may have had the insulation rubbed off of them exposing them to ground.
Shorting the positive side of diodes to ground and voltage and/or the power output wiring to ground will render an alternator useless very quickly.
