Transmission Temperature Gauge

Q. I have a 1999 Tahoe 350CID with a 4L60E transmission.

I want to install a digital transmission temperature gauge. My two questions are:

  1. Where does the sensor screw into the transmission?
  2. What is considered "normal" operating temperature for these transmissions?

Thank you very much for any help that you can provide!!!

A. I'm sorry I can't help you with this one. I have never installed an aftermarket Transmission Temperature Sensor. I'm sure the kit comes with installation instructions.

I checked all my specification books and there is no specification for "Normal Transmission Operating Temperature". My guess is that you will need to drive the truck under normal conditions, note the transmission temperature, and use that reading as a baseline. It could be that the kit may have a chart and tell you what is normal.
