Park Ave Has Some Problems

Q. Hi Vince, I have a 1991 Buick Park Ave Ultra with an electrical problem. It has a 3.8 liter engine, automatic, fuel injection, ABS, with 160,000 miles. To start with, the A/C heater blower motor runs all the time even with the ignition off. When I bought the car it only ran at low speed all the time, now it runs wide open all the time and the wiring going to the motor gets pretty hot.

I already checked the heater control in the dash by disconnecting it, but the motor still runs. It has dual climate control by the way.

The compressor for the dyna-ride also runs with the ignition off, not all the time, but occasionally it will kick on. I was told it should not run at all with ignition off.

Problem #3- The high beams worked when I got the car, then once in awhile they would go out while I was driving. I could click back to dim for awhile then back to bright and they would work again for awhile. I replaced the dimmer switch at the base of the steering column, but they would still go out.

Now my high beams stopped working altogether, and the light indicator mounted in the ceiling above the rear view mirror is lit saying I have a burned out bulb. I have not replaced either of the high beam elements yet because if only one is burnt out the other one should still work, right? Please help if you can.

Thanks....
Norman

A. I just had someone with the same problem with his blower motor. Can't Turn Off Blower Motor

As for the Electronic Level Control (ELC) compressor running, I would think the most likely problem is ELC relay, position G in the relay center.

As for the headlight problem, the most likely cause is a bad Head lamp Control Module located behind the dash board, just left of the steering column
