Servicing ABS Brakes

Q. Vincent, I have a Chevy work truck with power assisted ABS brakes and need to service the front brakes. With an ABS system, can you use a C-clamp to compress the caliper pistons without causing damage to the ABS system?

Thanks,
Dan

A. Should not be a problem. I would recommend cracking the bleeder valve open and then compressing the piston back in. Then close the valve. This prevents the old dirty fluid in the caliper from being forced up into the master cylinder. After the brake pads are on, fill the master cylinder with new fluid and pump pedal until the level is correct.
