Windstar SES Light On
Q. I have a 1998 Ford Windstar 3.8 liter engine. The service engine light came on and nothing seems to be wrong. It is not missing or anything. Someone told me that on some cars that it comes on after a certain number of miles come up. The only thing I can figure it could be is the PVC valve but I don't know where it is.
The vehicle has 108,432 miles on it. If you have any ideas let me know.
A. Some cars do have maintenance reminders that come on at a certain milage. They remind drivers of oil changes, emission service, etc.
Your Windstar does not have that feature. If the Service Engine Soon (SES) light is on, that means the computer has detected a fault, stored a trouble code and is alerting you to the fact that a fault exists. The thing to do now is to got to a Ford Dealer or a shop with a scan tool to find out what the code is and what is needed to repair it.
The PCV valve is in the right valve cover, near the oil fill tube. It might be the cause of the light coming on, but not one of the more likely possibilities.
