Transmission Fluid In The Coolant

Q. Hello there, I recently bought a used car and have had nothing but headaches since. The car is a 1992 Cadillac Seville, 4.9 Litre front wheel drive, The repairmen have put three radiators in it and cannot seem to get the transmission fluid out, They have flushed it several times with still no clean results in the radiator.

And also do you think that there can be long term damage to the engine??

Thank You,
Kevin

A. Getting oil or transmission fluid out of a cooling system can be a very difficult problem. Especially with an older engine such as yours that has some degree of sludge that can hold the transmission fluid like a sponge. In one extreme case, and I don't recommend you doing this, I opened the block drains and ran gasoline through the block to get motor oil out of it.

At this point I would try a reverse power flush. A good long one. That is your best bet on getting the fluid out. The transmission fluid in the cooling system will not harm the engine, but getting out as much as you can would be the best thing to do.
