Explorer Power Steering Pump

Q. Hello, I have read through your writings and have come to the point where I need to ask for help. I need instructions on removing and replacing the power steering pump in my 1991 Ford Explorer. I then have to take the pump to the autoparts store so I can get the pully swapped. Can you e-mail me instructions or a diagram on how to do this, or do you have a link to a place with step by step instructions.

Thanks so much for your help.
Chris

A. That's a pretty straighforward job. Here's what you have to do.

  1. Drain power steering pump reservoir and disconnect return hose at reservoir. Drain it into suitable container.
  2. Remove drive belts.
  3. Remove oil dipstick tube, if needed.
  4. Remove power steering pump bracket support brace, if equipped.
  5. Remove pump to bracket attaching bolts, then remove pump.
  6. Reverse procedure to install.

It's about a two hour job.
