Buick Park Avenue Idle Problem

Q. Vincent, I have a 1990 Buick Park Avenue. Has started to rev very high when started. Erratic rpm all the time. Gas mileage way down. Light white exhaust. At a stop, may die, or have to hold back with brake. At 70 mph it runs great. At low speed, you feel the rpm change.

Buick Park Avenue Idle Problem

At a stop, may go from normal to high rpm and back. 205,000 miles. Have had for one year. Good body and interior. Would like to fix a friend said map sensor. What do you think?

Thank you for your help.

A. Could be anything. A scanner would help here. Better to have it scanned to find out than start guessing at parts to throw at it. It could also have a vacuum leak at the intake manifold.
