Nissan 240SX OD Switch Broken

Q. Hello, My 1989 Nissan 240SX overdrive button will not stay engaged. If I depress the button and hold it in place, it will engage the overdrive. When I let go of the button it releases the overdrive. It no longer clicks in and holds as it did originally. Is there anything I can do to fix the problem inexpensively?

Nissan 240SX OD Switch Broken

I can feel a setscrew type depression in the shifter handle on the side facing the dash. Is this a potential place to start or am I way off base? I am the original owner of this car, automatic transmission, and it has only 82,000 miles.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A. Actually there should be two screws on the shifter handle. Remove the two screws and the shifter handle will come straight up and off. Then just unplug the OD Switch, take it out and put the new one in.

Be careful when you remove the shift handle. There is a spring and lock button linkage that may come apart.
