F-150 Door Locks
Q. Vincent, I just purchased a 1999 Ford F-150 Supercab 4x4 5.4 liter truck. When I try to lock or unlock it using the door switch both locks move a little but it is as if there is not enough power to move them all the way up or down. There is a clicking noise heard coming from behind the passenger side air bag area in the dash when you push the lock/unlock button.
I removed the panel on top of the dash and the clicking noise is coming from a relay or module located there. Is that item my problem or are both door lock actuators bad? Or is there another problem? The doors locks work fine when using the key. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks...
A. I think it hardly likely that both actuators went bad at the same time. And since they work with the key, they must work. There are two door lock systems used in this truck. One has a Remote Anti-theft Personality (RAP) module and one without. The possibilities vary with the system used.
The system without the RAP is fairly straightforward and doesn't involve any modules or relays. So I think your system has a RAP. If it does, then the best bet would be to have a Ford dealer troubleshoot it.
