Camaro Wipers

Q. Mr. Ciulla, First off I would like to say that your articles and troubleshooting tips are very helpful to us young inexperienced drivers out there. Well, to get to the point, I just bought a 1989 Chevy Camaro RS, and the windshield wipers aren't functioning correctly.

It is just a Off, Low, High switch, but when you turn it to low and high the gears and linkage turn once and then don't work, but when you forcefully turn the switch forward, the wipers stay on. Is there a problem in the motor or just in the switch? Also, there is a little bit of steam in the exhaust and it coughs up a little water. Do I have to replace the head gaskets (argh) already or is there any kind of sealant I can add to the radiator to seal up the crack, it seems small enough. Thanks for all your help.

Tyler

A. From what you describe I would tend to think it is a bad wiper switch. I think it's just plain wore out. When you have the switch on HIGH, check for power at the purple wire at the wiper motor. If there is no power have someone push the switch forward and if you get power then replace the switch.
