Are You Ready To Rumble???

Q. My 1994 mustang is a 3.8 liter V-6 automatic transmission. It has 66,000 miles on it. Recently I noticed when I'm driving and it goes to 30, then 35, 40 and 45 mph it starts to feel like I'm going over "rumble strips". It is not real hard, and there is no noise involved. Any thoughts on what this is and how it can be fixed. I love this car and would like to drive it past 100,000 miles.

Thank you,
Stephanie

A. That speed range usually means the wheels and tires are out of balance. If you feel it at all speeds, then you have a tire that's probably out of round. What I would suggest you do for starters is to get a four wheel balance and tire rotation. While the car is up in the air, they can check the front end and see if there are any worn parts that would cause this problem as well. I would also have them check the wheel bearings to make sure they are good and tight. A wheel bearing cleaning and repack would certainly be a good idea. If the wheel bearings and front end is tight, then most likely you have bad tires.

Please, let me know how you make out.
