Brake Light Always On

Q. Hi, I have a 1991 Chevy 1500 pickup with ABS brakes. Vehicle has 185,000 miles on it. Recently, the brake light came on. The brakes work, no leak, plenty of brake fluid in master cylinder. Tried engaging and disengaging the emergency brake, brake warning light is still on. Any idea of what's wrong?

Thanks,
Matt

A. I'm assuming it is the red brake light and not the ABS light and that the master cylinder was excessively low, where air entered the system.

The most likely possibility is the parking brake switch is bad,has a shorted wire or needs adjusting. If you look at the top of the parking brake pedal, you will see the switch. Unplug the connector and the light should go out. If it does it is a bad switch. Make sure the parking brake pedal pushes the switch plunger down. Adjust it is it doesn't and replace it if it does.
