Can't Pull DTCs From A BMW 325iC

Q. Hi Vince, I have a 1994 BMW 325iC that decided to show me the "Check Engine" light today. Your site and the Bentley manual give the same instruction on triggering the flash codes, but when I do it (five pedal depressions to the floor in less than five seconds), I get no response. The light just stays on as it was before I pressed the pedal. Is there some trick I'm missing?

Thanks for your help,
Ben

A. I believe you may have a bad Digital Motor Electronic (DME) control unit. What you need to do is unplug the DME, wait a couple of minutes then reconnect it. Make sure you do this with the ignition OFF.

Drive the vehicle then attempt to pull the DTCs. If they will still not come up, or you get a DTC 1211 or 2211, you will need a new DME. I would let the BMW Dealer confirm this before you go replacing it.
