Chirping Toyota Echo

Q. Dear Mr Ciulla, I own a 2001 Toyota Echo. It is a manual transmission with 14,000 miles. I have been hearing a chirping noise lately which stops when I push in the clutch and when I idle. It increases when I accelerate. Sometimes it comes and goes. Could this be serious? No other problems.

Thanks,
Rosemary

Chirping Toyota Echo

A. This could be a symptom of a bad input shaft bearing in the transmission. The vehicle is still under warranty so I would take it to a Toyota dealer and let them take care of it.
