Southwind Cruise Control

Q. We have an 1989 Southwind motor home. It has a 454 Chevy gas engine on a P30 chassis. My problem is the cruise control won't set any more. Can you give me some ideas to look for? It has an automatic transmission. It has 77,000 miles on it.

I have checked all fuses and don't know what to do next. I called the nearest Chevy dealer and they didn't know what to do. I would like any help that you can give me.

Thank you,
Glen

A. It's surprising that a GM dealer would say they don't know a GM made cruise control, and I am assuming it is a factory cruise control.

Most often the cause is a vacuum problem. Check the vacuum lines from the manifold to the vacuum accumulator (big black ball) and from there to the cruise control servo. Replace any that are loose, damaged fittings, kinked, plugged or improperly routed. Then look at the wiring harness, connectors and grounds. Repair any loose or improper connections and damaged wiring or connectors. Also check the linkage from the servo to the throttle, make sure it is connected and not frozen.
